N...>>...And most of all, f%$# Michael Irvin!

No, thank you. I take it with a non-dairy creamer . . . like my women.

The two football ANALysts I dislike the most are Michael Irvin and “Prime Time” Sanders. And no, it has nothing to do with them being Black. It has to do with them being jerks.

(My favorite baseball analyst is probably Harold Reynolds, and the last time I looked, he was Black, too.)

~ D-FensDogg
‘Loyal American Underground’Stephen T. If you remember, I wasn't as outrage...Stephen-

If you remember, I wasn't as outraged about the Rocker comment as you, and in fact, none of this would bother me as much as it does after reading about the Irvin comment yesterday.

He apologized, and everyone was fine. All the white middle-aged schlubs were canned.

So you know what I say (in an Al Pacino Scarface voice)?

F@#& ESPN and F$#@ ABC and F$#@ the F%$#ing NFL!

And most of all, f%$# Michael Irvin!

JacquesDiscConnectedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07013919800637508392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3464804653054664923.post-50318701331302523792011-10-12T15:07:58.397-07:002011-10-12T15:07:58.397-07:00JACQUES ~
When you mentioned this upcoming blog bi...JACQUES ~
When you mentioned this upcoming blog bit, I wondered whether it would get posted here or at “Back In The USSR”. I guessed correctly: here.

You mentioned the baseball Giants above, and yes, Major League Baseball has had a few of these overly sensitive, politically correct moments too.

There was the John Rocker controversy (which we’ve previously discussed) and the remarks made many moons ago by Al Campanis, which resulted in his resigning amidst a huge public outcry.

In both of those instances, I felt (as I do about this Bocephus issue) that the media and all the other Politically Correct gatekeepers overreacted. It seems no one’s allowed to air anything but a sterile, PC-approved opinion anymore without it costing them money and/or their job. (Well, the WASPs anyway.)

As for the Al Campanis remark... I have a little inside info on that because back when my Ma worked for the Dodgers, for a time she was a secretary to Al Campanis. She told me during that big flap over his televised remarks that she had never heard Campanis make a single racist remark in the office.

She did say, that he had once commented that a Black man had to be about twice as good as a White man to make it any position in Major League Baseball. That statement came in the early 1960s, while she was employed by Campanis. However, he wasn’t stating his own personal viewpoint, but merely making an observation about MLB in general at that particular time period.

The Dodgers, of course, were the first team to break the “color barrier” by signing the first Black man, Jackie Robinson, to a major league contract, and Campanis, ironically, had probably done more to promote Latin players in MLB than anyone else at the time.

One that really pissed me off was the aforementioned controversy surrounding Howard Cosell’s remark. I was watching that game that night, and there is NO QUESTION in my mind that Cosell was NOT making a race-related comment at all! When Cosell shouted, “Look at that little monkey go!” he was merely caught up in the excitement of the play and it was just an innocent expression that the way-too-sensitive crowd blew up way-out-of-proportion.

What a shame, what happened to Cosell, when we reflect on the fact that he played a major part in turning Muhammad Ali into a worldwide celebrity. Cosell REALLY got screwed, in my opinion.

WHOA! I GOTTA GO!
“Miss Mississippi just walked through the door!”

(If you were more familiar with the “real” Bocephus song ‘All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight’ that reference above wouldn’t have gone over your head like a “flying monkey”. Look at that little monkey fly! ;o)

~ D-FensDogg
‘Loyal American Underground’Stephen T. McCarthyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00249125637725791567noreply@blogger.com
